Christian leaders’ apprehension about Narmada Kumbh unfounded

The apprehension expressed by leaders of Madhya Pradesh Christian Federation regarding the Ma Narmada Samajik Kumbh being organized at Mandla in Madhya Pradesh from Feb 10-12, 2011 are not only unfounded but imaginative and far from the ground reality.

According to reports published in a section of Press on February 9, 2011 the Convener of Madhya Pradesh Christian Federation, Bhopal, Sri Anand Mutungal addressed a Press Conference and expressed fears that the Christians in and around Mandla were being forced to reconvert to Hinudism during the Kumbh. He alleged that the Kumbh activists have asked the Christians to fill a form stating their willingness to reconvert to Hinduism.

The Christian leader further blamed the Kumbh activists for displaying huge boards against the Christian community which has led to instilling fear complex among the members of the Christian community. The Federation also demanded total security from the state government and even decided to move a PIL in the Jabalpur High Court in this regard.

A couple of days ago the Vice-President of All India Christian Council John Dayal had leveled similar baseless allegations against the organizers of Narmada Kumbh.

The Ma Narmada Samajik Kumbh Ayojan Samiti, Mandla out rightly rejects and refutes all the allegations leveled by the Convener of the Madhya Pradesh Christian Federation as they are totally unfounded and far from the truth. The preparations for Narmada Kumbh are being held since past six months and during this period no where any activist of the Kumbh Samiti had threatened or asked any member of the Christian community to get reconverted to Hinduism or fill in the form to that effect. Not a single complaint has been lodged against any of the Kumbh activists in this regards in Mandla.

On the contrary the Christians in Mandla have welcomed the Kumbh by putting a huge display board at Bharat Jyoti Vidyalaya, run by Christian missionary organization in Mandla. Not only this, many a Christians have been attending the discourses on Ram Katha being held at Kumbh premises since past one week. Even the Muslims of Mandla have joined the Christians in welcoming the Kumbh in Mandla.

The Christian Missions and Church organizations have been engaged in conversion of poor, ignorant, illiterate and backward Hindus living in remote hilly and forest area to Christianity by allurement, deceit or by force. They are also responsible for creating an anti-India feeling amongst these converted masses. The militancy and insurgency in the North-eastern states of India and other tribal-dominated pockets of the country bear testimony to this. Way back in the 50s, the Justice Bhavani Shankar Niyogi Commission appointed by the then Madhya Pradesh Government headed by the Late Ravi Shankar Shukla to probe the activities of Christian Missionaries in the state, have given ample proofs of their involvement in such activities-direct or indirect.

The Wadhwa Commision probing Graham Stains murder case have also categorically pointed out to the involvement of Christian Missionaries in conversion of Hindus in remote areas.

The legacy still continues as is evident from the recent happenings in Kandhmal area of Orissa where Swami Laxmananda was eliminated for preaching true religion among the tribal communities.

It has been the habit of the Christian Church organizations and their leaders to blame the Hindu organization whenever and wherever such events take place. The records of the recent past will prove this point. Very recently, the one-man Somasekhara Commission appointed by the Karnataka Government has also absolved the Hindu organizations of any involvement in attacks on churches that took place sometime ago.

But these Christian leaders seem to have resorted to their old game of blaming Hindu organizations leveling allegations which do not have any foundation. It is their figment of imagination and a deliberate attempt to vitiate the communal harmony and social peace in the peaceful city of Mandla.

The Ma Narmada Samajik Kumbh Ayojan Samiti appeals to the Hindu and Christian communities not to get misled by such malicious and false propaganda and thwart these ill-intentioned attempts of the self-styled leaders of the Christian community.
